In 1986, Jones earned her Master of Science in Sport Administration from the University of North Dakota. While at UND, her sport responsibilities included football and women's basketball, and she served as a clinical supervisor in a National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) approved undergraduate athletic training curriculum.
Jones received her Bachelor of Science in Sports Sciences from the University of Michigan in 1983, attending on a field hockey scholarship. That same year, she completed the athletic training curriculum at West Chester University.
