Gretchen Benz, MEd, ATC, is in her seventh year as an athletic trainer at the United States Naval Academy. She joined the staff in August 2007, and currently serves as the athletic trainer for the men's soccer and baseball programs.

Prior to Navy, Benz spent five years with the football, baseball, and men's soccer programs at the University of Maine. Within that time, she also served as an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

From 1997 to 2002, Benz worked with the football and women's basketball programs at the University of Richmond. During her final year at Richmond, she also served as an instructor in the Department of Wellness.

Benz earned her Master of Education in Sport Management from the University of Georgia in 1999, where she served as the athletic trainer for the 1996 NCAA Division I runner-up women's basketball team. While in Georgia, she had the opportunity to volunteer at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and was assigned to the Stone Mountain Velodrome and Archery Center.

A native of Detroit, Benz attained her Bachelor of Arts in French, with minors in Athletic Training and Biomedical Sciences, from Western Michigan University in 1995. While an undergraduate student, she spent one semester at Université Laval, a French university in Québec City, Canada.
