As a Freshman: Emma competed in ten events during her first year at Navy. She proved herself as one of the most versatile sailors on the team as she competed as a skipper in coed, women's, and single-handed sailing, as well as transferring to a crew in women's sailing with skipper Marissa Lihan. She competed as a crew at ICSA Women's Nationals in Austin, Texas. Her memorable finishes include a second at MAISA Women's, a second at University of South Florida Women's, and a fifth at the Central Fall #2 as a skipper.
Prior to Navy: Graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in 2010. A four-year member of the lacrosse team; captain and all-district selection senior year. Attended Virginia Tech for a year before coming to the Academy. Learned to sail in Opti's and 420's out of Boothbay Harbor YC in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
Personal: Daughter of Ned and Kathy Ferris and has one older brother who sailed for UNH. Naval Architecture major. Enjoys running and singing in the glee club.
