Intercollegiate Sailing Competes in Two Team Racing Regattas
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team closed out its spring break with two team racing regattas in Maryland this past weekend.
Navy's home event of the weekend was the premier team racing regatta of the year, the Graham Hall Team Race, where 16 of the best teams in the country came to do battle on the Severn River. Despite some light winds on Saturday and snowy conditions in the morning, the field was able to complete the full 16-team round robin and add on a top-six round at the end.
Navy sailed well and stayed in the hunt throughout the weekend, entering the top-six round with a 10-5 record, only two wins out of first. A 2-3 record in the final round however dropped the Mids into a fifth overall. Sailing for Navy were Patrick Snow, Gary Prieto, Peter Hogan, Michael Madigan, Molly Robertson, Mary Morocco, Ana Mier and Brittney Slook.
Navy's other event was not far away at the Washington College Team race in Chestertown. Conditions there were similar to those in Annapolis and the six teams in attendance completed three round robins in a timely manner. Navy sailed to a 10-5 record, good enough for third overall. Navy's team consisted of Spencer Nora, Tyler Fleig, Parker Loftus, Max Brill, Hannah Hughes, Kent Mathes, Emma Remis and Karma Richards.
