Intercollegiate Sailing Wins the Navy Spring Regatta
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team won its only competition of the weekend, the Navy Spring Regatta.
This home event is one of the first major coed fleet racing regattas and featured 20 teams from all over the country. Nice weather all weekend made for some great sailing and tight racing. Navy started out on fire, winning the first four races, before cooling off a little bit towards the end of the day on Saturday and closed out day one sitting second overall, but within striking distance.
As Sunday progressed, it turned into a two-team race, with Georgetown and Navy trading the lead back-and-forth. With one race to go in B division, the Hoyas held a one-point lead. Navy's Gary Prieto and Ana Mier shook off a bad start to come back and claim the lead by mark one. They never looked back, claiming the win in the race, the divisional win in B division and the overall win for the Midshipmen.
