Navy Advances to ICSA Coed Nationals Final After Taking First in Semifinal Round
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team placed first in the Gill Coed Nationals Western Semifinal and will advance to the final round, which will be contested in Charleston from Thursday to Friday.
The semifinal round consisted of two 18-team fields, the Eastern and Western divisions, on Tuesday and Wednesday. The top-nine in each field advance to the final round.
The first day of competition saw light, shifty winds and periods of strong current. There were numerous delays and racing lasted almost nine hours. Navy showed exceptional speed in the Z420s on the first day and held the lead in the Western Semifinal after day one. Day two featured better conditions and the racing was much more efficient. Navy sailed well in FJs on Wednesday and stayed out of trouble in the tricky current.
The Midshipmen hung on to win the semis with a low score of 115 and look strong heading into the finals. Patrick Snow and Mary Morocco Finished third in A division while Gary Prieto, Ana Mier, Hannah Hughes and Manuel Inserni-Pagan were first in B Division.
Racing in the final round will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday and will end by 5:00 PM Friday. Live video and live scores will be available.
