Intercollegiate Sailing Concludes Season at the Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship

St. Mary's City, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team concluded the 2013-14 season by placing ninth at the ICSA / Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship at St. Mary's College of Maryland this past weekend.
Navy had a strong spring championship season as the team placed third at the ICSA / Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship and was fifth at the ICSA / APS Team Race National Championship.
Navy placed fifth in the 18-team Eastern Bracket Semifinal to advance to the championship round. In the semifinal round, Navy totaled 73 points to tie for fourth with Stanford, but the Mids dropped to fifth due to the tiebreaker. Navy secured 42 points in A Division and 31 in B Division.
Navy placed ninth of 18 teams in the championship round, which consisted of 15 A Division and 15 B Division races. Navy won the 4B race and had a pair of third-place finishes. Navy totaled 281 points with a fairly even effort in both divisions. Navy had 139 points in the A Division and 142 in B Division.
In the championship round, Michael Grove served as skipper of the A Division and Emma Ferris and Alex Asuncion were crew. Mary Hall was skipper of B Division with Connor Hendi, Patrick Snow and Layne Morrison serving as crew.
Yale won the ICSA / Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship with 121 points. The Bulldogs also won the ICSA / APS Team Race National Championship last week and were the runners-up at the ISCA / Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship.
