Navy Intercollegiate Sailing Hosts Largest Team Race in Country

March 5, 2013

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy intercollegiate sailing team hosted the Graham Hall Team Race this past weekend, which in its fourth year as a standalone event, has become the model for what a collegiate team race regatta can be.

On the racecourse, Navy did not disappoint, finishing a solid fifth overall out of a very deep and challenging 16-team field. In amassing an overall record of 14-6 for the weekend, Navy was clearly one of the strongest teams in the fleet and should be ready to make a charge throughout the remainder of the team-racing season. Sailing for Navy were Taylor Vann, Devin Laviano, Michael Grove, Jocelynn Knudsen, Layne Morrison, Alex Asuncion, Michael Popp and Glenn McKenna.

Capping off a successful weekend, Navy brought home the victory at the ODU Spring Open. After a steady showing on Saturday, the Midshipmen seized an opportunity to move into the lead on Sunday when increased wind strength gave them a speed advantage over the field. Marissa Lihan and Aaron Hull posted a particularly impressive line on Sunday to move into second in A division while Charlie Peck and Alyson Eng finished third in B.
