Mids Place Sixth at Truxtun Umsted Regatta
March 20, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Every spring, the Navy intercollegiate sailing team hosts the largest collegiate dinghy event of the year, the Truxtun Umsted Regatta.
This event always draws 20 of the best teams from around the country to battle in four divisions in the chilly March weather. This year's edition of the Trux produced the typical strong field, but was slow to get going due to lack of wind. The wind finally filled in and racing began late Saturday and resumed all day Sunday. Navy rode Mary Hall and Glenn McKenna's victorious performance in B division to a sixth-place overall finish. Michael Grove and Jocelynn Knudsen finished 13th in A, Phil Youngberg was 10th in C and George Prieto was 11th in D.
A little ways south, Navy also competed in the St. Mary's Women's Regatta. The women endured similar conditions to those seen in Annapolis and the patience of the fleet was surely tested throughout the weekend. The Midshipmen finished 11th in the 17-team event, with Marissa Lihan and Alex Asuncion scoring 13th in A while Killian Corbishley and Layne Morrison were 7th in B.
