Navy IC Sailing Places Second at Dellenbaugh Trophy

April 3, 2013

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- While many people were enjoying Easter weekend, a small group of Midshipemen and assistant coach Brendan Healy traveled to Rhode Island this past weekend to compete in the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy Regatta hosted by Brown University.

It's the first major women's regatta in New England in the spring and always attracts an extremely challenging field of 18 teams. The first day was challenging for the sailors, with a light and shifty northwesterly breeze. Navy figured out the shifts first and jumped out to an overnight lead. Sunday saw very different conditions, with a steady seabreeze building throughout the day. Navy fought hard throughout the day, but eventually the team was overtaken by a hard-charging Yale squad that won the last six races to claim the victory.

Navy finished second overall with Mary Hall, Layne Morrison and Killian Corbishley winning A division while Marissa Lihan, Alex Asuncion and Julie Miller were eighth in B.
