Navy IC Sailing Finishes Second at the America Trophy
April 17, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy intercollegiate sailing team was the host and a competitor for this year's America Trophy Regatta, the conference coed championship.
The Midshipmen delivered in both roles this weekend, pulling off the event without a hitch while finishing second in the 18-team field. Terrific weather helped to make the weekend special as well, as we were able to complete all scheduled races by noon on Sunday. Michele Grove and Jocelynn Knudsen teamed to turn in a solid fourth-place finish in A division while Mary Hall and Glenn McKenna continued their torrid pace this spring in winning B division. The team's finish qualifies it for the College Sailing Coed Semifinals at Hampton University on April 27-28.
In other action, a few women on the team made the trip to Connecticut with for the Emily Wick Trophy. The Midshipmen sailed well and finished 8th in the 18-team event. Marissa Lihan and Julie Miller were eighth in A division while Killian Corbishley and Julia McKenna finished 10th in B.
The Mids will close out the regular season next weekends with four regattas, highlighted by the MAISA Women's Championship in Hampton.
