NICE, France -- After a long trip to Europe, team USA made it to Nice yesterday afternoon. We met our French liaison at the Nice airport and made our way to our accommodations to finish the registration process and then almost immediately called it quits for the day. Monday was the official practice day followed by the opening ceremonies of the World University Match Race Games.

The Navy team woke up to a rainy and cold day today in Nice and caught the shuttle to the Club Natique de Nice to check out the boats that we would be using in the regatta and go for a sail on the Mediterranean Sea. The breeze was pretty light today and quite shifty for the water evidently. The team did manage to get some boat handling and speed work in with our Canadian friends and we seemed to be going pretty quickly around the course. After our allowed two hours of practice, the team headed back to the dock just as the sun started to break through the clouds and the temperature started to come up along with the breeze.

Following the practice session, we were bused to the center of Nice where all of the delegations met at the Governor's mansion for the opening ceremonies. Navy, as always, was the most sharply dressed team at the event and received compliments from the Governor himself, although it was all in French and we were told later that he was very impressed with our uniforms.

Racing started on Tuesday for Team USA. The weather is predicted to sunny, however with very light breeze.
