ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- After hosting eight regattas over the first six weekends of the year, Navy held its last home event of the fall season this past weekend.
Coincidentally, it was also the biggest collegiate event of the fall, the Navy Fall Interconference Regatta, where 18 teams competed in four divisions, all on the water at once. The regatta began with light winds on Saturday which forced a lengthy postponement. The teams did finally get some racing in on Saturday and more on Sunday, completing a quality event. On the course, Navy's team showed flashes of brilliance, but was plagued by inconsistency in finishing eighth overall. Alex Ramos and Glenn McKenna finished seventh in A division. Michael Grove and Alex Asuncion were sixth in B, George Prieto and Phil Youngberg combined for 11th in C while Marissa Lihan cruised to third in D.
The other major Interconference event of the weekend was the Captain Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth, where 22 teams squared off on small Lake Mascoma. Good conditions allowed for a lot of tight racing on the first day, but unfortunately the wind never filled on Sunday and the fleet remained ashore all day. In the shortened event, Navy finished 12th overall, with Markus Edegran and Jocelynn Knudsen finishing second in A division while Devin Laviano and Sarah Blake were 10th in B.
The other regatta of the weekend was the Central Fall #2 at Washington College. Conditions in Chestertown were similar to those at home and Navy finished third out of 11 teams. Charlie Peck and Alyson Eng finished fourth in A division while Emma Ferris and Julia McKenna were third in B.
