Navy IC Sailing Places Fourth at Women's Atlantic Coast Championship

Nov. 14, 2012

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- After the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of the Coed Dinghy ACCs, the Navy intercollegiate sailing Team was left with just one event during the last competition weekend of the fall season.

Fortunately, the team was able to deliver a solid showing to go into the winter on a high note. The Women's Atlantic Coast Championship was held at Connecticut College this year and the event proved to be a light wind affair. There was so little wind in fact that the fleet remained ashore for the majority of hte first day, meaning that every race would count that much more in the shortened event on Sunday. Despite a few unfortunate races, Navy sailed well, finishing fourth overall in a challenging 18-team field. Mary Hall and Layne Morrison were fourth in A division while Marissa Lihan and Alex Asuncion finished fourth in B.
