Offshore Sailing Opens Spring Season with Second-Place Finish

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy varsity offshore sailing team opened its spring season by finishing second out of nine teams at the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta this past weekend at the College of Charleston.

Conditions ranged from light to strong winds providing a wide range of challenges for all crews. Navy was represented by senior skipper Ted Papenthien, senior helmsman Matthew Hundt, senior main trimmer Conor Hickey, senior jib trimmer Christopher Cantillo, senior spin trimmer Edward Decker, junior bowman Viktor Turner, sophomore pitman Christian Hoffman and sophomore mastman Zachary Krause.

The College of Charleston won the event, while California Maritime Academy took third.

Next up for the offshore sailing team is the LA Harbor Cup in San Pedro, Calif. from March 9-11.
