SAN PEDRO, Calif. -- The Navy offshore sailing team competed in the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup Regatta out of San Pedro, Calif., this past Friday through Sunday. Ten teams participated with Navy taking fourth overall in the 10-race series. James Prieto served as skipper with Peter Gibbons-Neff as tactician, Kenneth Endicott on the bow, Alisa Albrecht trimming main, Emily Frost trimming spinnaker, Ted Dempsey working the pit and Graham Tyson trimming jib.
USC was the overall winner followed by California Maritime Academy in second and Chapman University in third. The wind conditions for the regatta ranged from 6 to 18 knots with standard southern California sunshine in abundance.
Navy got off to a strong start winning the first two heats but struggled against the heavier teams in windier conditions on Saturday.
Next up for the squad is the NASS Spring Regatta on April 24-25.
