April 29, 2008

A crew of Varsity Offshore seniors, led by skipper Cullen Shaughnessy, won first overall in its class against 30 other competitors in the National Offshore One Design Regatta held on the Chesapeake Bay off Annapolis this past weekend.

A total of 271 teams from throughout the US and Canada were in town competing in 17 different classes. The USNA crew sailed aboard the Academy's Dreadnought in the J/105 class (31 boats - the second largest class of the event). They were the only team to post top ten scores in the six-race series, posting consistent scores every time.

Shaughnessy's crew included team captain Matt Recker, Sarah Horn, Mark McClure and Tyler Struzinski.
