Offshore Sailing Places First in Class at NASS Spring Regatta
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy offshore sailing team recently competed in the NASS Spring Regatta. Junior skipper Ted Papenthien and his crew aboard Hooligan placed first in the PHRF A0 class of five boats, winning all three races at the regatta.
Junior skipper Will Johnson and the Wahoo team put up a solid fight, finishing only 37 seconds back in race one and just over a minute back in race two to take second place. Meanwhile, Ranger battled hard to round out the podium in third.
Conditions were favorable for the light, high-powered TP52 but the crew worked hard to make sure they got as much potential from the boat as possible and never gave up. Their best VOST boat performance earns them the Avanti Trophy which will be handed out at the Navy offshore sailing team's upcoming Spring Awards Ceremony.
