Tim Burchett victorious in the CBYRA Race Week
Sept. 6, 2006 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Naval Academy Varsity Offshore Sailing Team (VOST) and Naval Academy Sailing Squadron (NASS) enjoyed a successful weekend participating in the 40th Annual Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) Race Week. While NASS conducted race committee work on one of four race courses, VOST Navy 44 skipper Tim Burchett and his crew on board LIVELY scored a first place in a fleet of 19 boats in choppy and shifty conditions in racing division PHRF A2. Also racing in PHRF A2 division in Navy 44's were team captain Joe Campbell and his crew aboard SWIFT (5th), Evan Scott and his crew aboard FLIRT (10th) and James Lawson and his crew aboard VIGILANT (14th). In the 22-boat J105 division, Cullen Shaughnessy and his crew on board ALLEGIANCE finished fifth after two races after initially being in second place after Saturday's racing. Also racing in the J105 division was Ryan Field and his crew aboard DREADNOUGHT (13th). The same VOST team will represent the Naval Academy for the Hospice Cup XXV sailed on the Chesapeake Bay this upcoming weekend racing in PHRF A2 and J105 divisions. The Annapolis based Hospice Cup is the first and most successful charity regatta in the country raising over 6.5 million dollars for hospice care since 1981, and nationally there are now 45 separate Hospice Cup regattas. # GO NAVY #
