Navy Offshore Sailing Competes in Three Regattas
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy varsity offshore sailing team competed at the NASS Race to Oxford this past Saturday and also the return Hammond Memorial Regatta back to Annapolis on Sunday.
Navy had seven boats competing in the NASS Race to Oxford.
In class PHRF A2, senior Ted Papenthien led his team aboard Defiance to second place in the 20-boat class. Senior Christopher Cantillo with his crew on Integrity were 20 seconds back in third, while senior Robert LaGuardia and his Gallant crew took fourth and senior Gunnar Hough brought his Tenacious crew in for sixth in the same class.
In the return Hammond Memorial Regatta on Sunday, Navy swept the top four places out of nine total entries in PHRF A2 class. Papenthien and crew again took the top spot aboard Defiance with Cantillo and his team on Integrity second, LaGuardia and crew of Gallant in third and Hough and his crew on Tenacious in fourth.
In the J/105 class, Krumweide led her team on Allegiance to third in the seven-boat class while Davis and his crew on Avenger were one spot back in fourth.
Navy also competed in the Spirit Rider Regatta this past weekend in Long Beach, N.Y., where the Mids took first place in their class.
Navy will next host the Shields Trophy Regatta, the annual Service and Maritime Academy Championship, this weekend in Annapolis.
