Sept. 24, 2017

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy varsity offshore sailing team hosted the U.S. Offshore Championship for the Lloyd Phoenix Trophy, a U.S. Sailing Association amateur big boat national championship, this past Friday-Sunday on the Chesapeake Bay.

Papenthein and crew finished third overall in the six-race series losing second place on a tiebreaker.

The winning skipper was Brian Kennalley out of the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.

Ten civilian teams representing their respective U.S. Sailing Association geographical areas competed for the biennially awarded trophy including from Pacific Palisades, Calif., Tacoma, Wash., Chicago, Ill., Houston, Texas, Cleveland, Ohio, New Haven, Conn., Solomons Island, Md., Raleigh, N.C. and Fairfax, Va.
