PHILADELPHIA - The Navy rifle team picked up its second consecutive dual win over University of the Sciences on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. A day after defeating the Devils' women's team, the Mids topped the USP mixed team on Saturday. The Mids shot a combined score of 4618, which was the team's highest since Oct. 13. The Devils shot a team total of 4303.
"We got off to a really good start in smallbore, but faltered a little bit in air rifle, which is unusual for us," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "Overall, it was a good weekend for us, we improved and enhanced our opportunity to make the NCAA Championship. We just need to keep getting better. If we can perform well in the next few matches, we're going to be right in the thick of things at the end of the season."
Steven Frazier's score of 579 in smallbore helped Navy establish a season-high mark of 2301 in the discipline. Ryan Williams shot season-best 578 in the event as well. Jodi Cull-Host and Zach Gibson posted scores of 574 and 570 in the discipline, respectively.
Williams led Navy in air rifle with a 587. Cull-Host followed with a 581, while Frazier shot a 576 and Shawn Cleary a 573 as Navy totaled a 2317 in the event.
The Midshipmen will be off next weekend, but will return to action on Feb. 2 when they travel to Army to compete for the Star.
