Navy Rifle Has Another Strong Performance in Win Over MIT
Oct. 11, 2008
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The eighth-ranked Navy rifle team had another strong performance on Saturday, defeating MIT, 4631-4463. The Mids improve to 7-0 with the victory, and all three scores have been at least 4618. "It was another fairly reasonable day for us," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley, who won his 100th career match with the victory today. "The air rifle score was outstanding and we are starting to get it together. The smallbore could always be better, but I am happy with our showing today." The Mids fired a 2282 in smallbore, led by Lisa Kunzelman's 576 and Alison Lankes' 573. Chris Burleson and Liz Leckie scored a 568 and 565, respectively, for the Mids. Navy turned it on in the air rifle discipline, firing a 2349, the second-best air rifle score in school history, behind the 2351 against Alaska-Fairbanks on Jan. 19, 2007. Kunzelman and Alex Karacsnyi totaled 591s each, with Karacsonyi setting a new career best. Lankes and Burleson rounded out the scoring with a 585 and a 582. Navy will wrap up its last day of the MAC Tournament on Sunday, beginning at 8:00 am in the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. # GO NAVY #
