ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In the annual President’s Trophy Match on Saturday, the Navy rifle team shot a combined 5,750 to finish in third place behind Army and Air Force. Participating in a unique five-man scoring format, the Mids came up 59 points short of Army’s match winning total of 5,809. Air Force finished with 5,800 points, while Coast Guard netted 5,510 points to round out the field of service academy programs.
“We’re disappointed to finish in third place, but we’re pleased with our overall improvement from last year,” said Navy head rifle coach Bill Kelley. “Improving by 31 points from 2012 shows that we are heading in the right direction.
