Seven Mids Earn All-MAC Honors in Rifle
March 2, 2006 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy rifle team earned 11 of the 20 spots on the smallbore and air rifle All-MAC Conference teams, the league office announced Wednesday. Seven athletes were named to the teams, with Navy shooters owning four of the 10 spots on the smallbore team and Mids capturing seven of the 10 spots on the air rifle team. Sophomore Josh Albright (Shelton, Conn.) was the lone Navy repesentative named to the first team of both the smallbore and air rifle squads. Albright was second on the team in smallbore average with a 580.43 and was third on the squad in air rifle with a 583.71. Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C.) was the other Navy representative on the smallbore first team, leading the conference with a 583.71 average in seven matches. Schneider was also named to the second team in air rifle with a 578.71. Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C.) earned her third first-team selection in air rifle, leading the MAC with a 585.50 average. She was joined on the team by Albright and freshman Lisa Kunzelman (Constantia, N.Y.), who averaged 584.14 in seven matches. Kunzelman also earned a spot on the smallbore second team with a 573.43 average. Ryan Miller (Alliance, Neb.) and Christina Schade (Eagle River, Alaska) were named to the second team air rifle squad after posting average scores of 578.67 and 578.00, respectively. Schade also earned a spot on the honorable mention smallbore team with a 572.43 average. Navy's final honoree was senior captain Billy Carson (McDonough, Ga.), who earned an honorable mention spot on the air rifle squad. Carson fired a 573.57 average in seven matches. Navy will tune up for the NCAA Tournament this weekend as it travels to the US Coast Guard Academy for the MAC Championships. Action will get underway at 7:00 a.m., on Saturday morning. Navy is the favorite to win the title, but will get stiff competition from Akron. Navy defeated Akron earlier in the year by 57 points (4614-4557). Navy will then head to Colorado Springs, Colo., the following weekend for its 15th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. # GO NAVY #
