Navy Rifle Team Captures MAC Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The eighth-ranked Navy rifle team (9-1) captured the 2001 Middle Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship, winning both the smallbore and air rifle championships in the Master Division Saturday.

The smallbore team of George Adams (Sr./Pearl River, N.Y.), David Bachta (Jr./Colorado Springs, Colo.), Scott Cohick (Sr./Oack Harbor, Wash.) and Bill Tolson (Jr./Oak Harbor, Wash.) shot a range-record 2304. Adams won the conference smallbore championship, shooting a match-high 580.

The air rifle team of Marta Jung (Fr./Reno, Nev.), James Kauber (So./Burlington, Wash.), Adams and Bachta set a range-record and tied the conference mark, shooting a 1540. Jung is the conference air rifle champion, shooting a match-high 387. Adams was right behind her with a 386.

Adams, Bachta, Cohick and Tolson will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the 2001 NCAA Rifle Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
