ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Steven Frazier led a strong Navy contingent at the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Championship last weekend taking home top honors in both disciplines, the league office announced recently. The Mids defeated Akron by a 4575 - 4557 score to win their 13th straight MAC title.
Frazier, a sophomore from McDonough, Ga., fired a 577 in smallbore to outdistance teammates Allison Paulson and Akron's David Brummond by nine points to claim the smallbore individual title. Navy recorded four of the top 13 scores in the discipline to tie Akron with a 2258 in the smallbore competition.
Frazier then won the air rifle gun with a career-high 586, outshooting teammate Ryan Williams by three points (583). Alex Berry was fifth and Britney Thornton were fifth and eighth respectively to help the Midshipmen to the team title by outscoring Akron by 18 points in air rifle.
In addition, freshman Brandon Thompson was named to the MAC All-Rookie Team after averaging a 560.7 in the air rifle discipline and a 549.7 in smallbore.
The Navy rifle went 8-2 during the past season and will return all but one shooter, senior Allison Paulson, for the 2012-13 team.
