ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy rifle team will host the University of the Sciences in its first dual match of the season on Saturday in Annapolis. Action will get underway at 10 a.m. at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. The Mids are coming off of a pair of first-place performances at last weekend’s Navy Invitational.
Navy and USciences faced off on three occasions during the 2012-13 season with the Mids earning three dominant victories to extend their all-time unbeaten streak versus the Devils to 26 matches.
Last Time Out
Navy swept the season-opening Navy Invitational with victories over VMI and John Jay on Saturday and Akron and SUNY Maritime on Sunday.
Behind Steven Frazier’s team-high 1,152 combined points the Mids finished Saturday with a final score of 4,585. Jodi Cull-Host was the Mids’ high scorer in air rifle with a 586-point showing.
On Sunday, freshman Dan Jonas led the Mids with a combined 1,158-point total. Jonas also notched Navy’s single-event high score of the day with 586 points in air rifle. Navy scored 4,610 points in smallbore and air rifle action versus Akron and SUNY Maritime.
USciences began its 2013-14 season last weekend at the NRA College Club Invitational and posted a solid 2-1 record. The Devils defeated Loyola College 2005-1458 and Canisius 2005-1761, while falling to Penn State 4160-3967. They are led by senior Sam Fowler, who posted a 551.55 average in smallbore and a 549.73 mark in air rifle last season.
