Rifle Puts Undefeated Record on the Line at Kentucky

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy rifle team will travel to Lexington, Ky. this Sunday morning for a Great American Rifle Conference matchup with the University of Kentucky. The Mids (2-0. 1-0 GARC) and Wildcats (0-0) will go shoulder-to-shoulder at the Buell Armory beginning at 9:00 AM.

Last year in Annapolis, the Wildcats knocked off the Mids, 4,688-4,645. Navy started the day with 2,309 points in smallbore before turning in a 2,336-point result in the air rifle portion of the event. In terms of aggregate scoring, Thomas Sarant led Navy with 1,164 points courtesy of a 580 in smallbore and 584 in air rifle.

Last Time Out

The Navy rifle team earned its second straight victory to open the 2017-18 season as the Mids rolled to a 4,643 to 4,553 win over the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday, October 7. Shooting at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range for the first time in the season, Navy (2-0) recorded the top-seven aggregate scores with Torrance Kang earning top-billing with a total of 1,164 points.

Navy’s smallbore lineup recorded 2,294 points, while it’s air rifle counters tallied 2,349 points. Josh Watson was the top-scoring smallbore shooter with a 579. In air rifle, Kang registered a 590.

Next Up

Navy will take three weeks off from competition in preparation for the 2017 President’s Trophy Match. The four-team meet between the service academies is set to start at 8:00 a.m. on Nov. 4 at Navy’s Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.
