LAST WEEKEND RECAP:
The co-ed team traveled to Yale this weekend for the Harry Anderson Regatta. This was the first major intersectional regatta of the season. Twenty-four teams from all but one district competed in the event. Saturday the wind was from the NW varying from 3-15 knots in the puffs. Four-leg and five-leg Windward Leeward courses were sailed, using an offset at the windward mark and a gate for the leeward, to minimize potential pile-ups. The race course was long, with races being anywhere from 25-40 minutes in length. Very challenging conditions with managing the fleet and playing the shifting breeze. The team ended the day in 10th overall. Sunday we saw similar conditions, just lighter. The breeze was incredibly shifty, sometimes shifting 50 degrees for an entire leg, causing a Nascar drag race to occur. Races were postponed at 2:00 p.m. to assess the dying breeze. The last set of each division was sailed in a building sea breeze, with the course outside of the cove. Both divisions had trouble adjusting to the new breeze and change in sea state. Dave Parker and Krysta Anthony finished 18th in the A division (151 pts). Katie Whitman and Andrea White finished 13th in the B division (112 pts) for an overall finish of 16th.

Navy sent nine sailors to a non-collegiate regatta at West River Sailing Club. The WRSC Annual Regatta had 20 participants in the both the Laser Full Rig and Laser Radial division. Paul Tucker was third, Mac Fletcher was fourth, Kevin McGill was sixth, John Keith was seventh, Michael Curran placed eighth and Jake Gerlach finished 16th. In the radial division, Charlotte Hill finished third, Cat Long was eighth, Maggie Reynolds placed ninth, Trisha Kutkiewicz was 11th, Kira Devers-Jones was 15th and Kristin Ullman placed 16th.

The co-ed team also sent two sailors to the KP Laser Open, which is a quarter-final for the Singlehanded National Qualifier. Saturday, 10 races were sailed in a 10-20 knot Northerly in the morning and a dying Northerly in the afternoon. On Sunday, 10 races were completed, with a light Northeasterly shifting to the North and building to 10-15 knots. The top seven spots were highly contested, with the places shifting race by race. Team captain Chuck Fulmer finish second, which qualified him for the Carl Van Duyne Trophy being held here at Navy, Oct. 8-9.
