Final Stats

HARTFORD, Conn. — After opening the weekend with a 7-2 win at Williams Friday night, the 13th-ranked Navy squash team (13-6) concluded the weekend with a pair of wins over #17 Dickinson (6-3) and #24 Amherst (9-0) on Saturday in Massachusetts, while dropping an 8-1 decision to top-ranked and defending National Champion Trinity on Sunday in Connecticut.

Junior Senen Ubina (Greenwich, Conn.) was the lone Navy player to put together a flawless 4-0 mark over the weekend that featured a 3-1 win (11-9, 11-13, 11-9, 11-7) over Trinity freshman Aryaman Adik.  Ubina, who played the No. 5 spot for the Mids, has won five in a row and stands atop the Mids’ leader board with a 16-2 record.  Additionally, he moved into 20th on Navy’s career wins list behind a 56-21 mark.

Sam McCartney (Chicago, Ill.), Jamie Kjorlien (Greenwich, Conn.) and Jack Lentz (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished the weekend with just one blemish on their record - all versus Trinity.  Lentz is second on the team in wins with a 15-4 record, an impressive mark having split time at the No. 2 and 3 positions as a rookie.  Lentz was one of three Navy players to win a 3-2 decision in the 6-3 victory over Dickinson on Saturday.  He found himself down 2-1 after three games, but fought back to take games four and five, 11-2 and 11-9, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kjorlien became the third Navy player this season to capture his 50th collegiate win.  The junior won his first three matches of the weekend, including an 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 sweep over Amherst’s Mateen Mills on Saturday to earn win No. 50.  He now stands 50-21 over his three seasons and is 11-6 this winter.

McCartney was riding the team’s longest winning streak with five straight wins before succumbing to Trinity’s Nku Patrick in three games on Sunday.  The senior who has seen time from Nos. 5-8 this season owns one of the best winning percentages during head coach Craig Dawson’s career, posting a 43-12 (78.2) record which stands as the fourth-best winning percentage.

Seniors Jack Herold (Chicago, Ill.) and Greg Hyer (Tenafly, N.J.), junior Dylan Sweeney (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Owen Davis (Rydal, Pa.) posted 2-2 marks for the weekend, while sophomore Michael Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) was 1-2 and junior Alex Patricolo (Southampton, N.Y.) was 1-0.  Herold pushed up to a tie for 16th on Navy’s career wins list alongside Gavin Morrison (2001-05) with a 62-32 mark.

The Midshipmen will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Yale (3:00 pm) and Wesleyan (11:00 am), respectively.
