Squash Caps Off Weekend with 7-2 Win over Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. —  The 15th-ranked Navy squash rounded out its weekend with a 7-2 road victory over Wesleyan Sunday morning in Middletown, Conn.  The Mids, who at 24-5 have the most wins since the 2009-10 season, are just three weeks before the College Squash Association Team Championship in New Haven, Conn.

One of the best matches of the day feature Navy senior Hunter Bouchard (Greenville, Del.), who earned his 22nd win of the season via a four-game win over Daniel Sneed at the No. 3 position.  Sneed edged Bouchard in the opening game, 12-10, however Bouchard fought back to take game two, 14-12, and game three, 12-10, before sealing the victory in the fourth with an 11-8 win.

Meanwhile, second-year standout Andrew McGuinness (Merion Station, Pa.) dealt Wesleyan’s No. 1 player junior John Steele an 11-5, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6 loss.

Junior Hunter Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) pushed his season mark to 12-6 with a three-game sweep over Zander Nassikas at No. 4, while seniors John Richey (West Hartford, Conn.) and Cotter Walker (Orlando, Fla.) and freshmen Bill Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) and Mitch Bottini (New Hamburg, N.Y.) also won matches against their respective opponents in three games.

Navy’s Jim Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) dropped a heart-breaker to Guy Davidson at the No. 2 slot.  After falling behind in the match, Kacergis won games two and three, 12-10 and 11-5, to hold a 2-1 advantage in the match.  Davidson evened the match a 2-2 with an 11-9 win in the fourth and won the gave in the fifth behind a 14-12 decision.

The Mids return to action next Saturday when they travel to Canton, N.Y. to battle 10th-ranked St. Lawrence at 10:00 am.
