HARTFORD, Conn. — Ninth-seeded Yale dealt the 16th-seeded Navy squash team (16-9) a 7-2 loss Friday morning in the opening round of the Hoehn Cup at the 2018 College Squash Association Team Championship played at Trinity in Hartford, Conn.

Freshman Jack Lentz (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Senen Ubina (Greenwich, Conn.) not only won their individual matches against their Yale foes, they both captured their 20th victories of the 2017-18 campaign.  Lentz, who is now 20-5 including a 7-4 mark at his current #3 position, earned his second straight win over Yale’s Max Martin.  Lentz earned a 3-2 victory over Martin during the regular season and in Friday’s championship bout he rebounded from an early 0-1 deficit to win three straight and post his first career postseason win.

Ubina, meanwhile, faced Yale’s Arjun Kochhar for the first time this season, moving up from the #5 position to #4.  Ubina, who stands 20-4 on the year including 15-2 at his current #4 spot, cruised to a 3-0 win against Kochhar and improved to 4-3 all-time at the CSA Team Championship.  With the win, Ubina pushed up to 18th on Navy’s career wins list alongside Tommy McNamara (2008-11) with 60 career wins.

Junior Dylan Sweeney (New York, N.Y.) had his team-best five-match winning streak snapped in a five-game match against Thomas Kingshott at the #6 slot.  Ironically it was Sweeney’s victory over Kingshott during the regular season that kicked off his winning streak.  Kingshott burst out to a 2-0 lead on Friday before Sweeney fought back to level the match with a pair of 11-8 wins in the third and fourth games.  Kingshott closed out the match with a game-five 11-6 victory.

The Mids fall to the consolation bracket where they will face #12 Drexel (lost 5-4 to #13 Brow) on Saturday at 9:00 am.  The Dragons defeated the Mids in Annapolis in mid-January, 8-1.
