Abrams Comes Up Just Short at CSA Individual Championship
March 4, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. — Navy freshman squash standout Hunter Abrams (Wilmington, Del.) won his first match of the day, but fell short in his quest to win the second consolation bracket of the Molloy Division at the 2012 College Squash Association Individual Championship held at the Davenport Squash Center at Amherst College.
Abrams scored his second-straight five-game victory in the tournament, turning back Wesleyan’s John Steele on Sunday morning. Abrams and Steele traded victories before the Navy rookie earned the victory in game five, 11-4, to advance to the finals of the second consolation bracket.
Although Abram put forth a solid effort, he would come up short against Harvard’s Tom Mullaney. And while Mullaney took the match in three games, Abrams did not give away the match by any stretch of the imagination. All three games went down to the wire, as Mullaney captured a 15-13, 17-15, 13-11 win over Abrams.
“Hunter just couldn’t pull out that last match,” said Navy head coach Craig Dawson. “He gave a great effort and played well, he just came up short in his final match.”
