The Winter Break was a productive two weeks for the USNA Squash team. From December 20-22, senior captain Hunter Beck and junior Andrew McGuinness took advantage of the time off and competed in the Atlantic Coast Championships in Greate Bay, NJ. Beck and McGuinness sailed through the first two rounds of the doubles draw before reaching the much-anticipated final match. The USNA team met veteran doubles player and National Champion Rich Shepherd and former Rochester University No. 1 Matt Domenick. Each game of the match was exceptionally close, and with a crowd looking on, Beck and McGuinness were able to pull out a 3-0 win to take home the trophy.
The Squash team returned to USNA on January 2nd for two practices before departing for their winter training trip to Philadelphia. While the team practiced and competed in exhibition matches around the area, doubles teams Beck and McGuinness and brothers Jim and Bill Kacergis
entered the William White Tournament. After two well-fought wins (3-1, 3-0), Beck and McGuinness again found themselves pitted against the Kacergis brothers in the finals on Sunday
. After Beck and McGuinness took the first two close games, the Kacergis brothers surged back to a 15-10 win in the third game, making it 2-1. Beck and McGuinness were then able to secure their victory in the fourth, edging out their teammates 15-11.
