ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Navy sophomores Andrew McGuinness (Merion Station, Pa.) and Jim Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) will take part in the 2013 College Squash Association Individual Championship slated to be played Friday thru Sunday at Trinity College’s Ferris Athletic Center in Hartford, Conn. Both players will compete in the Molloy Division of the tournament.
McGuinness is making his seconds consecutive trip to the CSA Individual Championship after bowing out of last year’s tournament with a loss in the round of 16. The second-year standout put together a 22-11 record, splitting his time between the No. 1 and 2 slots. He began the year as the No. 2 player where he posted a 15-0 record before earning the No. 1 position where he owned a 7-11 record.
McGuinness has received an opening-round bye and will play the winner of the Kyle Ogilvy (St. Lawrence) vs. Kristian Muldoon (Bates) match on Friday at 3:30 pm. While he has not face Ogilvy this season, McGuinness defeated Muldoon during the regular season, 11-6, 11-9, 11-2.
Kacergis battle McGuinness throughout the season for the No. 1 position. After beating McGuinness in Navy’s annual Barb Tournament to set the lineup, Kacergis played the No. 1 slot where he amassed a 14-1 record. On the year he posted a 19-13 record, winning his final two matches at the CSA Team Championship a week ago. This is Kacergis’ debut at the individual championship.
Kacergis will battle Franklin & Marshall’s Antonio De La Torre in the first round on Friday at 11:20 am. This will be the first time these two players have met. The winner will move on to face Brown’s Blake Reinson on Friday at 4:20 pm.
