Four Mids to Compete at College Squash Association Individual Championship
Senior team captain Jack Herold (Chicago, Ill.), Jack Lentz (Philadelphia, Pa.), Michael Kacergis (So / Malvern, Pa.) and Senen Ubina (Jr / Greenwich, Conn.) will represent the Navy squash team at the 2018 College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championship set to begin Friday in Washington, D.C.
The Pool Trophy represents the top 16 entrants in the tournament, while the Molloy Division is divided into four draws (North, South, East and West) and represent players seeded 17 through 80. A double-elimination tournament, the winners of each of the brackets earn All-America honors.
Herold, who put together a 17-10 record as the Mids’ #1 player, will face NYU’s Gabriel Bassil in the opening round at 9:00 am on Friday.
Lentz, who will join Herold in the Molloy North bracket, put together a 20-7 record this season splitting his time between the #2 and #3 positions. One of two players on the roster to reach 20 wins this season, he will battle Cornell’s Jordan Brail on Friday at 9:00 am. Lentz and Brail have met twice this season, including this past Sunday at the CSA Team Championhship, and Brail has won both matches.
Kacergis will battle Middlebury’s Jake Kagan on Friday at 1:10 pm in the Molloy East division. While the two teams met during the regular season, the pair did not square off. Kacergis turned in a 15-11 record on the year, sharing time as the Mids’ #1 and #2 player.
Ubina paced the Mids in wins this season, boasting a 21-5 record. He takes on Rochester’s Marcus Sim Wei Jie on Friday at 2:00 pm in what will be the first meeting between the two players. Ubina won the consolation finals of the Molloy East bracket a year ago.
All four of Navy’s entrants will compete twice on Friday regardless of their first-round outcome.
