ANNAPOLIS, Md. — After posting a 20-6 record and placing 13th at the annual College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championship in February, the Navy squash team finished the 2016-17 ranked 13th according to the final rankings put out by the CSA on Monday.
The 13th-place marked the Mids’ best finish at the championship since placing 13th in 2011-12. Meanwhile, it’s the ninth time in head coach Craig Dawson’s 17-year tenure that Navy has won 20 or more matches and the 11th time in the program’s 69-year history.
Navy also had three players finish the season ranked among the top 50 in the country. Jack Herold (Jr / Chicago, Ill.), who played the #1 position on the ladder for the Mids, put together a 16-11 record, including a 15-10 mark during the regular season to finish 37th. Rookie Owen Davis (Rydal, Pa.) turned in a team-high tying 21 wins (21-7) playing the middle portion of the ladder and finished the year ranked 43rd. Rounding out the rankings for the Mids was sophomore Senen Ubina (Greenwich, Conn.) in 50th. He recorded a 19-9 record, including a 15-8 mark as the Mids’ #2 player on the ladder. Ubina closed out the season by winning the consolation finals of the Molloy East bracket at the 2016-17 College Squash Association Individual Championship where he went 3-1.
