Navy Awaits Busy Weekend of Action on the Squash Courts
The 14th-ranked Navy squash team (6-1) returns to action on Friday when the Mids host their second round robin in as many weeks. Teams traveling to Annapolis for the three-day event include Bucknell, Denison, Georgetown, #26 Hobart, Johns Hopkins, #21 MIT, #5 Penn and Stanford. Additionally, Navy will field a “B” team.
The Schedule / Opponents
Navy’s varsity squad will be in action five times over the weekend, kicking things off on Friday at 7:00 pm against 21st-ranked MIT. The Mids will face Stanford (9:30 am) and 26th-ranked Hobart (2:30 pm) on Saturday and close out the weekend with matchups against Denison (9:30 am) and fifth-ranked Penn (1:00 pm). All five of the Mids’ varsity matches will take place in Halsey Field House, while the Bancroft Hall courts will also be utilized during the weekend to accommodate the 10-team field
The Mids are a combined 138-63 against their weekend foes, including a 53-0 mark against MIT in a series that began in 1949. Navy is 13-0 vs. Stanford, 31-6 vs. Hobart, 14-9 vs. Denison and 27-48 against Penn. Navy has won 19 in a row against Hobart and 12 in a row against Denison. The Quakers have taken 17 straight against the Mids with Navy’s last win against Penn on Jan. 17, 2001, in a 6-3 victory at Penn. Navy’s last win over Penn at home was the year prior, Jan. 19, 2000, when the Mids clipped the Quakers, 5-4, during the regular season.
As a reminder, vehicle access to the Naval Academy is limited to those with a Department of Defense identification card. It is suggested that fans park off The Yard and walk onto the grounds. Note that a government issued identification card must be carried and presented by visitors to the USNA prior to being allowed onto The Yard.

A Look Back
Navy shut out all four of its opponents at its annual Veterans Weekend Round Robin in Annapolis last weekend. The Mids earned a 9-0 win over Fordham on Friday, scored 9-0 wins over Boston University and Johns Hopkins on Saturday and closed out action with a 9-0 win against Georgetown on Sunday morning.
Navy won 39 of the 40 matches by 3-0 counts, while winning one by forfeit. Eight of Navy’s nine players on the ladder completed the four-game sweep, while Sam McCartney and Alex Patricolo (Jr. / Southampton, N.Y.) split action over the weekend.
Freshman Jack Lentz and senior Jack Herold, Navy’s No. 2 and 3 players on the ladder, respectively, stand 7-0 on the year, while Michael Kacergis, Senen Ubina, Jamie Kjorlien, Dylan Sweeney, Owen Davis and Greg Hyer are 6-1.
Jack Herold stands 21st on the Navy wins list under head coach Craig Dawson’s direction with a 55-27 record. He is five wins away from becoming the 18th player in Dawson’s 18 years to reach 60 victories.
Four active Navy players are ranked among the top 25 in career winning percentage under Dawson. Sam McCartney tops the current roster with a 79.1 (34-9) winning percentage, the fourth best during Dawson’s coaching tenure. Dylan Sweeney owns a 46-15 record (75.4) and is ranked eighth, while Jamie Kjorlien is 16th with a 73.8 winning percentage and Senen Ubina 25th (69.7).
