ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy baseball team officially began its countdown to Opening Day on Friday with its first full team practice. With the Mids’ first game of the season just three weeks away on Friday, Feb. 14, the team gathered on Friday for full team workouts at Halsey Field House.
“It’s great to get started,” said Navy head coach Paul Kostacopoulos. “Even though we work year round, you really get the sense when you have your first official practice that the season is near. The program is excited and you can definitely tell that the players are counting down the 21 days until we open.”
After a slate of fall workouts and scrimmages, the Mids will look to strengthen their roster and depth, as four positions in their batting order will be filled with new starters in 2014. Navy will also further incorporate their 15-man freshmen class into the team this preseason.
Navy begins its season with a three-game series at Florida A&M beginning on Friday, Feb. 14. The team’s 51-game schedule will feature 33 games to be played at home at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
