Countdown for 2018 is on for Navy Baseball
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy baseball team officially began its countdown to the 2018 season this past weekend with three full team practices starting on Friday, Jan. 26. The entire 33-man roster gathered as a unit for the first time in 2018 and went through a weekend full of drills and scrimmaging at Max Bishop Stadium.
A year after winning 37 games and the program's third straight Patriot League regular season title, the Mids have their eyes on postseason glory and a return visit to the NCAA Tournament. The team's 18 returning letterwinners are led by senior captain and 2017 First-Team All-Patriot League OF Logan Knowles (.330, 23 RBI, 16 SB) and 2017 Second-Team All-Patriot League SP Noah Song (6-4, 3.67 ERA, 89 Ks). 2017 Freshmen All-Americans 2B Zach Biggers (.331, 4 HR, 22 RBI) and 3B Jacob Williamson (.296, 5 HR, 25 RBI), as well as 2016 First-Team All-Patriot League OF Stephen Born (.282, 2 HR, 37 RBI) will help form a strong offensive foundation for 2018. On the mound, Song will be joined in the rotation by senior RHP Sean Kamhoot (2-2, 3.62 ERA, 30 Ks) and junior RHP Andrew Sauer (2-1, 4.17 ERA, 33 Ks.).
Navy’s season begins in 18 days with three games in Winston-Salem, N.C. In consecutive games at Wake Forest the Mids will play Gardner-Webb (Feb. 16), Wake Forest (Feb. 17) and Georgetown (Feb. 18).
