CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Patriot League honored a trio of Midshipmen for their efforts in Navy’s season opening series at Florida A&M this past weekend. Brad Borosak was named Patriot League Player of the week, Anthony Parenti was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and Travis Blue was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Borosak (Jr., Jupiter, Fla.) accounted for all of the runs in Navy’s season-opening victory over Florida A&M on Saturday by belting a two-run home run to break up a scoreless game in the fifth inning and send the Mids to a 2-0 victory. He finished the weekend going 5-for-14 (.357) with two runs scored, the home run and three RBIs. The home run was the first of his career. Borosak had hits in all three games.
Parenti (Jr., Elizabeth, N.J.) got the Opening Day start for Navy on Saturday and came out firing as he tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win in a 2-0 victory over the Rattlers. He struck out six while allowing only two hits and one walk, and did not permit a runner to reach third base. This was the fourth combined shutout of Parenti’s career.
The third Mid to earn an award this week was Blue (Orange, Calif.), who earned the team’s starting shortstop job as freshman. He opened his collegiate career with a solid weekend by going 3-for-10 with two runs scored and an RBI in Navy’s series at Florida A&M. He was 2-for-3 in the Mids’ 2-0 win in the opener and came around to score on Borosak’s two-run home run.
In the case of all three players this is the first time in their careers that each individual has garnered a Patriot League weekly honor.
Navy will be back in action this weekend with a three-game series versus Air Force in the 2014 Freedom Classic. Hosted in Kinston, N.C. and played at Grainger Stadium, the Mids and Falcons will play single games on Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (12:30 p.m.).
