Navy Heads To Kinston For Fourth Annual Freedom Classic
The Navy baseball team will continue its early season road action with a three-game set of games in Kinston, N.C. versus Air Force in the 2014 Freedom Classic. The two teams have faced off at historic Grainger Stadium since 2011 and have split those 10 games evenly at 5-5.

Mids & Falcons, Last Series
During the weekend of Feb. 22-24, 2013, the Mids and Falcons faced off for the third consecutive year in Kinston, N.C. for the Freedom Classic. The two squads split a four-game series with each team alternating wins. Current Jr. Anthony Parenti and recent grad Ben Nelson led the Navy pitching staff with 15.0 combined innings and only one earned run allowed. Individually, Parenti struck out a career-high nine Falcons in Game One of Sunday's (2/24) DH, while Nelson countered with eight strike outs in Friday's (2/22) opening win.
Offensively, Brad Borosak drove in a team-high three RBIs over the series.
As a team, Air Force outhit Navy, 34-27 and outscored the Mids, 24-16.
Navy versus the Mountain West Conference (MWC)
The Mids have an all-time record of 17-22-1 versus current members of the MWC: 17-18 vs. Air Force, 0-3-1 vs. New Mexico and 0-1 vs. Fresno State.
Manzelli is Navy's Current Iron Man
Manzelli appeared in and started all 51 of Navy's games at first base in 2013. He was one of only three Mids to accomplish that. He leads the team with 71 consecutive starts dating back to 2012.
Sophomore OF Robert Currie did his job as a table-setter for the Mids down the stretch in 2013 as the leadoff/No. 2 hitter, as he reached base in 17 straight games to conclude the season. Beginning April 13 in Game 1 at Holy Cross, Currie had his streak extended 13 times by hits and two by walks and hit by pitches, respectively. With hits in all three games at Florida A&M to start 2014, he has extended his streak to 20 games. (16 hits, 2 BBs, 2 HBPs).
Mids Sweep Patriot League Awards
Navy swept the weekly awards handed out by the Patriot League with Borosak (.357, 1 HR, 3 RBI) being named Player of the Week, Parenti being named Pitcher of the Week and Blue (.300, 1 RBI, 1 SB) earning Rookie of the Week honors.
Freshman Debuts at Florida A&M
Freshman debuts were aplenty in Tallahassee as six Midshipmen made their first collegiate appearances ... Travis Blue (3 starts at SS), Leland Saile (3 starts at DH), Adrian Chinnery (1 start at C), Patrick Brady (1 pinch-running appearance), Colby Sciarrilla (1 relief outing) and Kyle Condry (1 relief outing) ... Blue and Saile made it two straight years that Head Coach Paul Kostacopoulos has started a pair of freshmen in the Opening Day lineup.
Last Non-Conference Road Series
This trio of games will be the last road weekend series for the Mids until league play opens at Bucknell on March 29 ... 18 of Navy's next 19 games will be at home, including its home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 26 versus Coppin State at 2 p.m.
