Nelson Again Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week
Feb. 25, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior Ben Nelson was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday. It marks the second consecutive week Nelson has garnered the accolade and fourth time in his career. He is the first Navy pitcher to win the award in back-to-back weeks since Mitch Harris in 2007.
Nelson continued his impressive start to the 2013 season on Friday as he tossed a nine-inning complete game in a 3-1 win over Air Force. The native of Winter Springs, Fla., scattered six hits and did not walk a batter while striking out eight and giving up just the one run in the victory. He retired the side in order through the first three innings, and allowed only three singles and no runs in the final five frames. It was the 11th complete game of his career and the nine innings marked his second-longest outing, eclipsed only by his 10-inning performance against Bucknell in the 2011 Patriot League tournament semifinals.
Nelson is 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA. In 16 innings of work, he has registered 14 strikeouts and just one walk.
Navy will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Central Connecticut State in a four game series beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
