ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy baseball team will play its first home weekend series of the 2018 season versus NJIT beginning this Saturday. The Mids (6-2) and Highlanders (0-3) will go head-to-head with a four-game set at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. The teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday with first pitch set for 11 a.m.
Navy will look to continue its fast start to the season that has seen the team win both of its first two series two games to one and sweep mid-week games versus UMBC and Coppin State this past Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Past Week
The Mids had a busy last week with three games in Kinston, N.C. versus Air Force and a pair of home mid-week contests ... Over that five-game span of play, Navy went 4-1 with the only setback being a 16-inning loss to Air Force on Sunday ... The Mids showcased strong offensive and pitching performances all week led by the team scoring 32 combined runs versus the Falcons at the Freedom Classic and the pitching staff hurling a shutout on Tuesday against UMBC ... Those 32 runs mark the highest single-series total for Navy in the rivalry between the two service academies.
Statistically, Navy hit .325 with 42 runs scored, 20 doubles, two triples, one home run and 40 RBIs, while posting a .444 on-base percentage over five games ... On the mound, 12 pitchers have seen action for the Mids and together they have posted a 2.77 ERA over 52.0 innings with 44 hits, 17 runs (16 earned), 14 walks and 59 strikeouts ... Opponents hit a combined .226 versus Midshipmen pitching this past week.
Individual standouts on offense include: 2B Zach Biggers (.500, 8 R, 13 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI), LF Evan Lowery (.400, 2 R, 10 H, 5 2B, 6 RBI) and 3B Jacob Williamson (.333, 7 R, 8 H, 3 2B, 1 HR, 11 RBI) ... Pitching-wise, RHP Noah Song (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 16 K), RHP Jared Leins (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 11 K), RHP Tommy Goodridge (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 K, 1 SV) and LHP Jack Ferguson (1-0, 1.35 ERA, 6.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K) have led the way for the Mids.
For his efforts at the Freedom Classic versus Air Force, Song was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week ... Williamson and Leins also earned accolades from the Patriot League as the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

3/20/16 at Annapolis, W, 7-3
The all-time history between the Navy and the New Jersey Institute of Technology goes back two years to 2016 when the two clubs meet in Annapolis over the weekend of March 19-20. After rain washed out the first game of the series on Saturday, the Mids and Highlanders played twice on Sunday, March with the hosts winning 7-3 and 4-0.
The Mids used a well-rounded offensive attack in the first game to secure a 7-3 victory before coming back in game two and riding a complete game shutout by Noah Song to a 4-0 win over the Highlanders. On the mound, Song was dominant as he allowed just one hit over the first six innings and only three for the entire game on his way to a 104-pitch complete game shutout. He finished with six strikeouts versus the Highlanders to secure the doubleheader sweep in game two.
Offensively, Ben McGrath and Matthew Wilcox led an evenly-distributed attack by the Mids as all 11 players who appeared during the doubleheader had either a hit or scored a run. McGrath stood out as he collected a team-high three hits and two runs scored. Wilcox ended his doubleheader with a .500 on-base percentage (3-6), two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.
