ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two days after blasting UMES in a 17-5 mid-week contest, the Navy baseball team will look to carry over that momentum into a three-game weekend set of home games versus Central Connecticut State and Marist College at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. In a split three-game series, the Mids (4-7) and Blue Devils (5-5) will play on Friday at 2 p.m. before picking up their meeting on Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup. A single game versus the Red Foxes (6-4) will be sandwiched in-between on Saturday starting at approximately 2 p.m.
The Red Foxes and Blue Devils will meet prior to the Mids' game on Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m.
This weekend's meeting with Central Connecticut will serve as redux of the Mids and Blue Devils non-conference series from last March 5-6. The challengers from the Northeast Conference recorded three straight wins over Navy by scores of 3-2, 9-2 and 8-1.
Offensively, Stephen Born (2) and Logan Knowles (1) drove in three of the Mids' runs with Travis Blue posting a team-high .273 (3-11) batting average. On the mound, Luke Gillingham ('16) and Sam Sorenson ('16) hurled 11 innings and allowed four combined earned runs. As a staff, Navy posted a 3.96 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 25.0 innings.
The Mids and Red Foxes have never met before on the diamond. Navy's most recent matchup with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe was in 2015 against Iona.
This Past Week
Navy has played four home games over the past week with three against Cornell over the weekend and one versus UMES on Wednesday. On Sunday, Navy was defeated by Cornell, 8-5 before imposing its will on Maryland Eastern Shore by a count of 17-5.
Over the four games, Navy's offense hit .273 with 32 runs scored, 14 extra-base hits, a .374 on-base percentage and 10 stolen bases.
