CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For his solid work in two relief appearances this past weekend, Navy right-hander TJ Kerins (Fr./Marietta, Ga.) was recognized as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday morning.

Kerins is the second Navy freshman to earn the weekly honor this season. Fellow right-hander Zach Sipe (Fr./Huffman, Texas) first earned the award following his career-debut victory in a starting role against Pittsburgh.

In last weekend's action against Iona and Central Connecticut State, Kerins went 1-0 with one save and 1.23 ERA in 7.1 innings with no walks and three strikeouts. The Navy freshman fired 2.1 perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts to claim the save against Iona on Friday afternoon. Two days later against Central Connecticut State, he came out of the bullpen and finished out the game with 5.0 innings of one-run baseball with no walks to earn the win.

For the year, Kerins has made three relief appearances and owns a 2.61 ERA over 10.1 innings with no walks and five strikeouts. He has held the opposition to a .244 batting average.

The Midshipmen (4-4-1) return to action this afternoon at Davenport Field in Charlottesville, Va., when they take on 18th-ranked Virginia (12-0) at 4 p.m.
