Parenti Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
March 20, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy junior LHP Anthony Parenti (Elizabeth, N.J.) has been named the Naval Academy Athlete of the Week, presented by Rolls Royce, following his performance versus Quinnipiac last weekend.
Parenti was dominant once again for Navy on Friday as he threw 8.0 scoreless innings in his third shutout (second combined) of the season. The junior LHP struck out eight Bobcats and allowed just four hits and one walk on his way to earning his fifth victory on the year. During the contest versus Quinnipiac, Parenti had six three-up, three-down innings and didn't allow a base runner to reach third base for the third time in a game this season. A leader of Navy's starting rotation since Opening Day, he saw his ERA drop from 0.65 to 0.50 with his efforts.
Over the first five weeks of play for his squad, Parenti has garnered three Patriot League Pitcher of the Week awards and sits top-50 nationally in Wins (2nd-5), ERA (16th-0.50), Strikeouts (20th-38), WHIP (26th-0.73) and Hits per 9 innings (42nd-4.79).
The Midshipmen will be back in action on Thursday afternoon with a 3 p.m. bout with Delaware State before hosting Princeton in a four-game weekend series beginning on Saturday. The Mids and Tigers will play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. Game One of each day is scheduled to start at 12-noon.
