ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy baseball team will look to make it 10 wins in a row on Wednesday afternoon with a road matchup in Dover, Del. versus Delaware State. The Mids (12-7) and Hornets (6-9) will wrap up a home-and-home series that began last Thursday in Annapolis. Navy was victorious in that pitchers’ duel that was eventually decided by two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. First pitch between the teams on Wednesday is scheduled for 3 p.m. at DSU’s Soldier Field.

First Matchup (Thursday, March 16)

Navy extended its winning streak to five games last Thursday afternoon with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Delaware State at home … The game was controlled by each team’s pitching staff over the first seven innings before the Mids turned a late 2-1 deficit into a win over the Hornets courtesy of a two-RBI double by Leland Saile in the bottom of the eighth.

In a game that coasted to a final time of 2:15, aggressive and effective pitching was key throughout and the freshmen duo of Austin Rader and Trey Seabrooke took the lead on Thursday and hurled five innings of three-hit scoreless baseball for Navy to start … In the second half of the game, a pair of seniors in Brian Wikoff and Jett Meenach did the heavy lifting with four innings of one-hit scoreless pitching … Two unearned runs off of Andrew Sauer in the top of the eighth inning were the only blemish for the Mids’ pitching staff in the game.

A first inning single by Stephen Born to score Logan Knowles was Navy’s first run of the game and the only tally on the scoreboard until the top of the eighth when Delaware State scored two.

For the game, Navy outhit Delaware State, 7-5 … Saile recorded a team-high two hits for the Mids on Thursday.

A perfect six-up, six-down run of pitching action over the eighth and ninth innings by Meenach helped him improve his individual record to 2-1 in 2017.

Probable Pitchers

Freshman RHP Trey Seabrooke is slated to get the ball for Navy on Wednesday in his first collegiate start … Last Thursday’s relief appearance was the first of Seabrooke’s career … The freshman right-hander tossed 3.0 innings with two hits and one walk allowed, while striking out two Hornet batters … Likely held to a strict pitch count for his start on Wednesday, Seabrooke threw 35 pitches in his prior relief appearance.

As of Tuesday, Delaware State had yet to name a starting pitcher … The Hornets are on a run of four games in three days, as they played a re-scheduled doubleheader at Norfolk State on Monday before hosting LaSalle on Tuesday.

Navy vs. Delaware State

The Midshipmen are 21-6-1 all-time versus the Hornets in a series that dates back to 1980. Navy is currently on a six-game winning streak against Delaware State.
