Senior Dave Milanes and freshman Sam Sorenson were recognized by the Patriot League on Monday for helping Navy a to a 4-1 record last week. Milanes was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, while Sorenson was tabbed the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Milanes had a hit in all five games last week, going 10-for-21 (.476) with a home run, 11 RBIs, four runs scored and four doubles. In Navy's 12-10 win over Delaware State, the senior went 5-for-5 for the first time in his career. He also drove in a career-best seven RBIs which included a pair of three-RBI doubles.
In the bottom of the sixth inning of Saturday's first game against Princeton, Milanes drilled a two-run double to lift Navy to a 2-1 win. With the Mids trailing 4-2 in Sunday's contest, he hit another two-run double in the seventh inning that tied the game as Navy went on to win 5-4 in 11 innings.
The Iselin, N.J., native leads the Patriot League in RBIs with 16 and the weekly conference award is the first of his career.
Sorensen came out of the bullpen to pick up a save and win for Navy while tossing five scoreless innings in two appearances. On Wednesday, he pitched two hitless frames with two strikeouts to earn his third save of the season in Navy's 12-10 win over Delaware State. Against Princeton on Sunday, Sorensen did not allow a run in three innings of work, pitching the ninth, 10th and 11th frames before Navy pulled out a 5-4 walk-off win in the bottom of the 11th. It was his second win of the year to go with the three saves, which tie for the Patriot League lead.
The award is the first of Sorenson's career.
Navy will return to action on Wednesday against Maryland-Eastern Shore at 3 p.m.
